As a state-integrated secondary school, Zayed College for Girls delivers programmes directly drawn from the New Zealand Curriculum.
As well as a wide range of mainstream core and option subjects, students at all levels have classes in Religious Studies and Arabic language.
The Noble Qur’an is the authoritative source for all religious observances, instructions and content integration into the New Zealand Curriculum.
Islamic Studies includes assessments which offer NCEA credits at Levels 1, 2 and 3, that count towards the students’ overall NCEA results and Certificate of achievement.
GATE is the Gifted and Talented Education Programme that we run at Zayed College. NAG (National Administration Guideline) 1 states that gifted and talented students must be catered for in New Zealand schools. Gifted & Talented students at Zayed College are those who show potential exceptional abilities in one of more aspects of the total learning experience and display certain learning characteristics that give them the potential to achieve outstanding performance.
These years are about settling into Secondary School, getting used to the systems in place and building the skills and foundation to be a successful senior student.
Girls in the middle school undertake a wide-ranging core programme that include Islamic Studies, Arabic Language and Qur’an Studies. English, Maths, Science, Social Sciences, Health & P.E, Technology and The Arts.
There are also additional/optional programmes available where relevant, including English as a Second Language (ESOL) and Gifted & Talented.
In the Senior Years, students are increasingly looking towards their life beyond school. They select from a range of pathways that can lead to tertiary study, vocational qualifications or employment.
Harbournet brings interactive digital learning to school across Auckland, offering a range of specialist subjects at a variety of levels. Harbournet is a blended e-learning programme consisting of both video conferencing classes and online learning modules. Students are able to enjoy face-toface lessons with expert secondary teachers, and explore specialist subject areas that best fit their individual learning pathway, leading towards the career of their choice.
Students are encouraged to participate fully in national external examinations, as well as local, national and international challenges and competitions. A range of option subjects are provided at each level, while others can be facilitated through correspondence, depending on availability and demand.
